Reflection: Week 5
This past week indeed showed how vital justice is in our country. After last week’s Trump and the Ukrainian’s President’s call, it has increased tension on Capitol Hill. The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, recently announced that the House would begin with the impeachment process. This sent shock waves through the country and beyond. Americans’ feel that Trump has acquired numerous unfair “get-out-of-jail-free” cards. I do believe that in the past three years, the President has managed to collude, obstruct justice, influence, and support white supremacy. How is this allowed?
I do not condone a president that induces in sexual, racial, or bigotry remarks. This country is based on the separation of power and the right to check and balances. If you recall, Trump managed to infiltrate Kavanaugh into the Supreme Court, influence department heads, and deny any investigation that concerns himself. Is this what America represents? Fraud? Injustice? Incapable of bringing our President to justice? I hope not, however, it may just be.
Moreover, when I heard that Pelosi announced the impeachment process, I did not know how to react. A part me says that this is a perfect opportunity to seek justice; however, I also feel that this is a strategical move for a more significant game. In a little over a year, citizens will be lined up to vote for the most important Presidential election of this century. Could this impeachment be a way to discourage voters from electing Trump? Alternatively, does Pelosi honestly believe that “it is time” to see that our President is out of office? Can it be both? However, it is safe to say that our country and its government is on thin ice. One small move and trigger a wave of events. May God guide us to the right path, and only He knows what must be done.
